Sarva Shikshana Abiyana : Home based education
The Government of India has introduced the concept of Universal education where education is recognized as a fundamental right of all children. As part of this, education is provided in an inclusive manner and hence children with disabilities are included.
Home Based Education is aimed for children with severe disabilities who are not able to reach the school but should get education at home according to their ability and capacity. The teachers or volunteers are expected to visit the children to provide support, education and care. With this as the larger objective, GASS collaborated with Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana (SSA) and has appointed volunteers to provide home based services. The education of these children is different from the normal school teaching. The main focus was on physiotherapy, speech therapy, activities of daily living skills, basic education and training parents. GASS initiated capacity building for the volunteers to provide the above services at home. Totally in three districts 213 children were in the programme.
