Economic Empowerment of persons with Disabilities is achieved with gainful employment both by the wage employment in organized sector and self Employment in rural and urban areas. In recent years, there have been vast and positive changes in the perception of society towards persons with disability (PwD). It has been realized that a majority of PWDs can lead a better quality of life if they have equal opportunities and effective access to such economic rehabilitation measures.

There has been an increasing recognition of abilities of persons with disability and emphasis on mainstreaming them in society, based on their capabilities. The earlier charity and welfare approach to the rehabilitation of PwD has shifted to a Rights Based approach in an inclusive society. Some success has been achieved in sensitizing companies to open up jobs for the disabled and providing barrier-free work environment, leading to increase in wage employment opportunities for skilled persons with disability in the private sector. This hidden talent pool is being systematically augmented with skilling and employability trainings being provided to young PwDs so that their ability to compete for mainstream employment is enhanced.

A resource person comes from Enable India and conducts job training. They select people for specific jobs and provide life skills trainings to those people for a month regarding company rules [how to take leave and so on]. Then they place them in companies and talk to the companies regarding the same. They tell the companies about their disabilities and how to accommodate the disabled and we follow up with those companies once every month. If there are problems then we tell the companies how they can find their way around those problems to accommodate our disabled people. Later every 3 months we conduct a follow up.
